Top Dog Parks in the Charleston Area
After a fresh grooming session, your pup deserves some fun! Here are our favorite dog parks and pet-friendly spots around Charleston, SC.
James Island County Park Dog Park
Location: 871 Riverland Dr, Charleston, SC 29412
One of the best dog parks in the area, this park features separate areas for large and small dogs, a dog lake for swimming, and plenty of shade. The park charges a small entry fee but it's well worth it.
Why we love it: The dog lake is perfect for water-loving breeds, and the separate areas mean small dogs can play safely.
Palmetto Islands County Park
Location: 444 Needlerush Pkwy, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464
This beautiful park in Mount Pleasant has a dedicated off-leash dog area with trails, open spaces, and a small pond. Great for dogs who love to explore.
Why we love it: The nature trails give high-energy dogs plenty of room to run and sniff.
Wannamaker County Park Dog Park
Location: 8888 University Blvd, North Charleston, SC 29406
North Charleston's go-to dog park features separate areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, and benches for pet parents. The park is well-maintained and has good shade coverage.
Why we love it: Centrally located and easy to get to from most parts of the Charleston metro area.
Mount Pleasant Palmetto Park
Location: 1226 Park West Blvd, Mount Pleasant, SC 29466
A newer addition to the Mount Pleasant park system, this dog park has double-gated entries, separate large and small dog areas, and excellent drainage (important during our rainy season!).
Why we love it: Great drainage means fewer muddy paws after rain.
Sullivan's Island Beach
Location: Sullivan's Island, SC
While not technically a dog park, Sullivan's Island allows dogs off-leash on the beach during certain hours (before 10 AM and after 6 PM from April-September, all day October-March). It's a favorite spot for Charleston dog owners.
Why we love it: There's nothing like watching your dog run on the beach. Just be prepared for a sandy pup!
Folly Beach
Location: Folly Beach, SC
Similar to Sullivan's Island, Folly Beach allows dogs during off-peak hours. Dogs must be leashed May 1 - September 30 between 10 AM and 6 PM. The west end of the beach near the Folly River is especially popular with dog owners.
